MEET CHAMPION ALUMNI ALEX LEWIS, ART DIRECTOR AT A+ AGENCY.
Alex joined Champion straight out of Shillington college. Alex worked across a multitude of Champion client projects, from global governing organisations right through to local start-ups — all united in their ambition to create greater social purpose.
During her time with us, Alex played a pivotal role in re-branding the UK’s only youth-led radio station Reprezent, and those strong creative templates are still visible and in use today.
Where are you now? An insight into what you do today and where you do it.
I am now an Art Director at London based agency, A+ working alongside the Creative Director and leading our team of fantastic young creatives.
We recently took over 17 billboards across Waterloo and built a living billboard from scratch right by the station. I also recently travelled to South Africa to run a shoot, and whilst there had the pleasure of seeing a number of our billboards that we had worked up.
What did you take from your time working with Champion?
Champion was my first job after graduating, and was a truly unique and incredible opportunity. I was given the opportunity to run projects, work closely with incredible clients and have creative freedom to express ideas without a traditional hierarchy structure within the agency.
Working at Champion taught me to be open minded with design, and not to be afraid to step away from the computer and get creative!
What advice do you have for someone that is newly entering the creative industry?
Stay curious, ask everyone you meet questions.
Immerse yourself in your projects; read blogs, read books, find inspiration from everything around you (and not just other designers/from the design work of others)
Finally, work hard & be nice! It will pay off!
