CHAMPIONING YOUNG CREATIVE TALENT – PATRICK OPUSOON

Meet Champion Alumni Patrick Opusoon, now Product Manager at Government Digital Service.

Patrick played a pivotal role in the creation of Champion, helping create the structure of the new agency model. He worked across a portfolio of Champion’s clients. The digital strategy and campaign  that Patrick led for Zipcar was his greatest achievement that delivered record breaking outcomes.

Where are you now? An insight into what you do today and where you do it.

I now work as a Product Manager for Government Digital Service (like a tech start-up within UK Government tasked with leading the digital transformation). My role is focused on working in international teams across the likes of South Africa, Mexico and Maylasia, to help improve the digital services needed in these country to combat corruption and strengthen commercial trade links.

What did you take from your time working with Champion?

Working with Champion was an amazing experience, giving me the opportunity to work with some great clients on projects that really mattered for the likes of ZipCar and JustGiving to name a few. My input to the project was valued and I was trusted to act as the lead on the project.

The opportunity to work with Scott really built up my confidence as a creative problem solver – he was humble and always open to hearing other perspectives – that is what makes Scott and Champion uniquely placed in the creative industry. Champion showed me that from early on in my career you can get the best out of the people that you work with and the environment you create.

What advice do you have for someone that is newly entering the creative industry?

Lead by example.

There are a number of outlets available nowadays for people to showcase their passion and skills. Don’t wait on anyone, start sharing your gift with the world today.

Be humble enough to know what you know, and seek out any gaps in your knowledge from those that are more experienced than and can act as mentor to you.
